Playtime!: Empires in Brooklyn, NY – CMJ 2010

We caught up with indie up and comers Empires after a photoshoot during CMJ. I’m not going to lie, if I had to find this studio in Brooklyn again I would never make it. It’s on the edge. The roads are paved with cobblestone. I’m glad I made it out there though where we filmed a Playtime! session with the band that was truly incredible. Enjoy!

Playtime!:Young Nick Krill with Magic Mike in Brooklyn, NY – CMJ 2010

We had the chance of catching up with one of our favorite musicians here a Modern Mystery during CMJ 2010. Nick Krill of the Spinto Band. Performing one show only at the Park the Van showcase in Brooklyn, Krill, who performed under the name Young Nick Krill was joined by Magic Mike of …and the Moneynotes, and put on a stellar show. The fun didn’t end there as the duo performed a Playtime! session with us outside of the venue. Dude who video-bombed the second song, we will never forgive you.

Playtime!: Bridges and Powerlines – CMJ 2010

On sunny CMJ Saturday afternoon, we had the pleasure of filming one of our favorite up and coming indie bands, Bridges and Powerlines. These are some of the nicest guys you will ever meet and were more than willing to play on top of the giant playground bear statue. Watch the videos below of the two songs the band performed for us.

Introducing Life Size Maps

Life Size Maps, a three piece band from New York City, have had an exciting time the last few weeks. The trio played 4 CMJ showcases and were featured on the front page of Sonicbids as a CMJ Spotlight band.

Life Size Maps make dreamy pop-rock that lead singer Mike McKeever describes as “restless powerpop influenced by misplaced nostalgia.

Over the last year or so, the boys have played gigs at Glasslands, Public Assembly, Bowery Electric, Bruar Falls, and Cameo Gallery. In the coming weeks they can be found at venues in Brooklyn and Manhattan. A full list of dates can be found at the band’s MySpace page.
